Summaries

 

Chapter 1-  The Aleuts were trying to camp somewhere while they fished. They asked the village, Ghalas-at,  if they could stay on their island. The village agreed, but only if they stayed on Coral Cove and gave them resources.

 

 

Chapter 2- The Aleuts wanted to camp on higher ground because all of there sea otters they caught were washed away. Ghalas-at agreed that they could. Later, the Aleuts wanted resources, like food. The village didn't like that idea because the Aleuts made a promise to give them food, not for the village to give the Aleuts food. The Aleuts got mad and told the leader who was Captain Orlov.

 

 

Chapter 4- A few days later, the Aleuts tried to leave. The cheif of the village who was Chief Chowing wasn't going to let that happen. The Aleuts didn't give them anything. Frustrated, Captain Orlov and Cheif Chowing talked. The Aleuts tried only giving them one chest of jewelry, but that wasn't good enough. That resulted in a fight. Obviously, the village wasn't as powerful as the Aleuts. Many lives were lost including the main characters father, who was also the cheif. The main character's name is Karana.

 

 

Chapter 5- The village of Ghalas-at grieves of the loss of loved ones. They select a new leader, and the leader has to set off to another island.

 

 

Chapter 6- After Kimiki, the new leader didn't return, they got another leader. Suprisingly, a new ship comes. It is from Kimiki wanting the villagers to come to the island he found.

 

 

Chapter 7-  When boarding the ship, Ramo, Karana's brother, gets left behind. Worried, Karana jumps off to get her brother.
