Mia Winchell, the main character, and Jenna Davis are best friends. Jenna's mom passed away so it's just Jenna and her dad. Mango, Mia's cat, Mango, is one of Mia's best friends. Mango can't walk well and has been making wheezing noises. Whenever Mia looks at Mango, Mia see's mango-colored puffs. At school, Mia realizes that she is failing math. Also, she has a color for everything that she see's. She tells her parents that she is failing and her parents take her to the doctor's office. The doctor doesn't have a solution so he sends her off to another doctor.  Mia knows something is wrong, but doesn't quite understand what is going on. Finally, the third doctor diagnoses Mia's condition. It's a condition called Synesthesia. Synesthesia is a condition where a person sees colors. To fit in, Mia joins a website with other kids that have Synthesisa. She meets a boy,Adam, who is older than her, but still know how she feels. Mia goes to Synethesia meetings. She likes talking to others that are just like her. Suddenly, Mia hears Mango wheezing more that usual. She immediately gets worried and tells her parents. They need to rush Mango to the vet, but the road are too icy. Therefore, they take the helicopter.  But, it's too late.  Sadly, Mango passes away. Mia is extremely upset at first. But, later, Mia realizes it's okay. The Winchell family goes to a party for Hannakuh. Zack, Mia's brother, notices there is a litter of kittens and one of them looks just like Mango. His name is Mustard. Later Mia has a dream of eating hot dogs with mustard. She says "it doesn't take long for her to figure out what the dream means".
